Happy 11th Birthday, Makena Faith!

Happy Birthday, to my sweet Makena Faith!
I always have fun making these collages.
I'll admit that I did get a bit teary looking through all of
her baby pictures!  I can't believe how grown up she is now.
 
She called Grammy and asked her to make her a Hershey Bar cake.
They are delicious!

Noah made her a funny card and couldn't wait to show everyone!
 
 
Nanny and Pop got her a Google Nextbook. 
Yes, she did just get a tablet for Christmas, but the week after school
let out she dropped it on our hard wood floor and busted the screen.
This one is bigger and has a camera on it.  She loved it!
 

She also got lots of money.
 

Carl and I got her a Vera Bradley purse that is purple, of course!
 

She is One Directions biggest fan, I promise!

Everybody was so hungry when our pizza came out!
Carlie and Trey were both very sweet (unusually) to Makena on "her" day!
 
We celebrated Makena's  11th Birthday most of the weekend!  Friday night we had a family party, here at our house.  The Simpson's, Nanny and Pop, and Grammy and Papa all came.  She got the majority of her presents that night.  I made her wait until Saturday to give her mine :)  I think she enjoyed getting mail as much or more than anything else! 
After Carl got home from work Saturday morning we went to Little Rock to celebrate at Chuck E. Cheese's and we shopped around a little bit too! 
Overall, I think she had a great birthday!  She said she did anyway :)
I am so proud of her! 
We love you to the moon and back, sweet Makena!

Monday Morning Chit-Chat

  Happy Monday, friends! Well, here we are again. Another Monday morning, another fresh week, and another cup of coffee that I'm hoping will magically give me the energy to accomplish all the things on my to-do list. What's Up Wednesday

What I'm Reminiscing About... Septembers past: September is Trey's birth month. It is also the month that my grandpa died four years ago. This is the year that Papa gave Trey a gun for his birthday. He was so proud to give it to Trey and you can tell by the look on Trey's face how happy he was. Such a sweet moment to remember. Our county fair is also in September. Be Her: When Our Ideal Self Becomes an Idol

 Ella Langley's "Be Her" got me thinking about something I think a lot of women struggle with- the woman we think we should be.  You know her. She's more disciplined. More confident. More put together. She exercises, keeps the house clean, reads her Bible every morning, never loses her patience, and somehow always has good hair. We tell ourselves, If I could just be her..... And there's nothing wrong with wanting to grow. But what happens when the woman we want to become turns into an idol? Sometimes we become so focused on our ideal self that we forget to ask God who He wants us to become. There's a subtle difference between praying, "Lord, make me more like Christ," and saying, "Lord, help me to become the woman I've decided I need to be." One is surrender.
