There is something magical about getting up close to animals, especially when you don't have to travel around the world to do it. Recently, we took a little day trip to the Safari Wild Animal Park and Preserve in Como, Mississippi.
How Wrenley feels about long car rides!
Me too, Wren. Me too!
As soon as we drove through the gates ducks started coming right up to the car. I was a little concerned that Wrenley would be scared, but she absolutely loved them! She was ready to feed them and boss them around :)
We walked through the petting zoo area first. The first animals we saw inside were the goats. Wrenley was a little afraid of the bigger goats because they acted like they were going to jump out of the fence, but she was smitten by the baby goats. She thought they were "so cute".
She wasn't scared of feeding them at all.
Alpaca
My dad went right in and started feeding the birds.
They are pretty, but they have unpredictable bowel movements!
My mom was like a kid in a candy store.
She probably loved the animals more than anyone!
Wrenley was pretty curious about the tortoises.
Asking "Why?" to everything Pop told her :)
We also made a quick trip to the gift shop. I didn't get a picture of Wrenley's pick, but of course it was a stuffed goat wearing a purple t-shirt.
As soon as we got back to the car, Wrenley was on the lookout for some bigger animals.
And yes, her binoculars were turned the wrong way :)
It was all fun and games until a camel named Achilles got a little too up-close-and-personal!
Too close for comfort
the result of that encounter!
She really did enjoy it, but didn't want to feed the big animals.
We named this sassy emu, Vanessa. She was a boss babe :)
The zebras were beautiful
We weren't allowed to feed them.
This girl was not shy at all!
We tried to rush through these big boys
I surely didn't want them to come after my car!
I was pleasantly surprised that the giraffes were my favorite. This guy was so sweet and gentle. It took a little while for him to come to the car, but we stayed and fed him for the longest time. I apologize for the low-quality picture. I was the photographer of the trip but couldn't take any of myself. This was a screenshot of a video.
By the time we left, we were starving and ready for lunch. This was definitely a fun adventure.
It reminded me how important it is to pause, have fun, and soak in little moments like this.
Much Love,
Beth
