Have you ever found yourself rehearsing conversations in your head? You know the ones. The arguments you wish had won. The hurtful words you wish you could take back. The situations you desperately want to fix, control, or defend.
I think most of us have.
When we feel wronged, misunderstood, or threatened, our natural response is to fight back. We want to explain ourselves, prove our point, and make sure everyone knows our side of the story. But sometimes God calls us to do something much harder.
He calls us to be still. In Exodus 14:14, Moses told the frightened Israelites, "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Imagine the scene: The Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharoah's army. There was no visible escape route. No strategy. No backup plan. Just fear. Yet God didn't ask them to fight the battle. He asked them to trust Him with it.
That sounds wonderful in theory, doesn't it? But in real life, letting God fight for us can feel incredibly uncomfortable. It means resisting the urge to retaliate when someone hurts us. It means refusing to manipulate situations to get the outcome we want. It means trusting God sees what we see--and even what we don't.
Sometimes the battle isn't against another person at all. Sometimes it's a battle against fear, anxiety, disappointment, or uncertainty. We spend so much energy trying to carry burdens that were never ours to carry. God never promised that life would be easy, but He did promise that we wouldn't have to face it alone.
When David stood before Goliath, he didn't win because he was stronger. He won because he knew who was fighting alongside him. When Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming army, god told him, "The battle is not yours, but God's." (2 Chronicles 20:15)
And that truth is still just as real today.
The next time you're tempted to take matters into your own hands, pause and pray first. Ask God to give you wisdom, patience, and trust. That step back and allow Him room to work. You may not see the results immediately. In fact, you may wonder if anything is happening at all. But God is always working behind the scenes. The same God that parted the Red Sea, toppled giant walls, and defeated mighty armies is still fighting for His people today.
Sometimes the greatest act of faith isn't charging into battle. Sometimes it's standing still and trusting the One who already knows how the story ends.
"The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Exodus 14:14
Much Love,
Beth
