Whew, it has been a long two weeks! I am happy to announce that my sweet grandson, Wesley was born on May 29th at 2:45 p.m. He weighed 6lbs. 12 oz. and was 19.5 inches. It was about a week before Carlie's induction (which was already 2 weeks early). Things got serious REAL quick. When they brought him to the nursery, he was gray...not blue, GRAY and limp. They worked on him where we could see them through the nursery windows and then they pulled the shades down. My heart sank and I begged God to let that sweet baby be okay. With lots of help, they got him a little more stable, but he was still breathing fast and was struggling. About midnight they med-flighted him to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. I stayed behind with Carlie (who had just had a section) so Caleb could go with Wesley. After many days (10 to be exact), he was finally released to come home. We are so thankful that he is better. He just needed a little more time.
He had a very traumatic beginning, but his BeBe was right there holding his hand.
After 8 hours, his mama finally got her hands on him.
All buckled in for his first helicopter ride.
Of course, we were upset because this is not how it was supposed to be, but we knew he was going to the best place in the state. The nurses that accompanied him were amazing. They wheeled that massive incubator in her room so Carlie could tell him goodbye. That broke my heart. She was so strong though. She knew she had to recover quickly so she could help her baby. She is such a good mama!
Wrenley came to see her mama the next day but was pretty confused as to why Wesley wasn't there too!
It did Carlie a lot of good to see her big girl.
Pappy and I went to see Wesley after I went home and took a little nap. He was so swollen and that really scared me. His breathing was still fast. We were able to hold him and I sang "You are my Sunshine" to him before we left. It was so hard leaving him there. Makena actually went with us on this day. We didn't know that you could only have 4 visitors and they had to be the same 4 visitors for the whole time he is in there. We didn't want her to take any of the other grandparent's spot, so she sat outside and waited on us. I felt bad that she came all that way, so we went to eat at Cracker Barrel (one of her favorites).
Get better sweet Wesley
This boy can give some looks too!
Look at that side-eye :)
We tried to go see him every other day. We kept Wrenley whenever we were needed as well.
So many people have been praying for this precious boy!
Bright Eyed Boy
He was finally ready to go home after he started taking mama's milk!
Look at that pouty face!
On his way!!
I had Wrenley the day that Wesley came home, so Makena and I took her home and got her dressed in the outfit her mama wanted us to put on her. I didn't think she really gave a hoot about him coming home, but the closer we got, the more excited she became. It was adorable to watch her as she waited for them to pull in the driveway.
She couldn't wait to get her hands on him!
She asked to "pet" him :)
She was a little unsure about sharing Aunt Kena with Wesley
Nanny and Pop also came to Welcome Wesley home!
Pop with his first great-grandson
Pappy and Trey both ended up sick with a sinus infection. They were both ready to get their hands on him by the weekend!
Pappy's Boy!
This was Trey's first time holding him.
I wasn't there and this is the picture he sent me.
BeBe's little boy blue.
Needless to say, we are smitten with this little boy! In those short (but seemed LONG at the time) ten days he was in ACH, we saw so many babies that were a lot worse off than he was. It really put things in perspective. Life is such a gift, never take anything for granted.
Welcome to our wild family, Wesley Dean!
Much Love,
Beth
