Monday Morning Chit-Chat

 Happy Monday, friends!

Well, here we are again. Another Monday morning, another fresh week, and another cup of coffee that I'm hoping will magically give me the energy to accomplish all the things on my to-do list.

Spoiler alert: It probably won't. But I'm going to drink it anyway.

I thought we would start this week with a little old-fashioned chit-chat. Nothing too serious, nothing life changing. Just a little catching up on life lately, a few random thoughts, and whatever else happens to pop into my head. you know, the kind of conversation we'd have if you stopped by my house, pulled up a chair, and stayed a while. So grab your coffee (or whatever gets you going in the morning), and let's visit.

First things first...it's October! This year is absolutely flying by. I love this time of year. The cozy evenings, the fall decorations, the soups and comfort foods, and the excuse to stay home in my pajamas a little longer. Now if Arkansas could just get the memo that it's supposed to be fall, that would be wonderful. I'm ready for mornings that require a sweatshirt, afternoons with a little chill in the air, and evenings that make you want to curl up under a blanket.

We had a cool morning or two last week.
I felt festive while doing my Bible Study in my den :)

And speaking of fall, is anybody else already thinking about Christmas shopping? Because every year I tell myself I'm going to get an early start, and every year December rolls around and I'm wondering where all of my good intentions went.

Ready or not!

A little life lately. Life around here has been pretty ordinary lately. I am happy to report that harvest is officially over! No more late nights or super early mornings. They are cleaning up equipment now. I am glad to see the year winding to an end. My kids are busy working, and I am staying pretty busy doing all of the things that keep this house running. And y'all, there is always something going on around here. Trey had a water leak at his house twice in one week and Makena hit a raccoon with her car and tore her front bumper up! Caleb got promoted to captain at the fire station, and we are proud of him💗The dry weather around here has kept most fire stations (even volunteer stations) pretty busy. Trey attended a training session on Saturday morning. He loves our volunteer fire station. Makena took a work trip with the ladies she works with. They went to Discovery Park in Union City, TN. She said it was enormous and very cool. Carlie is always busy in the operating room. I am honestly very proud of them all! Wrenley is taking dance and gymnastics classes and loves them both, but I think gym just might be her favorite. Wesley is growing like a little weed. We took him to the doctor on Friday to find out that he had his first ear infection :(.

Random things on my mind. Since we're just chatting, let's talk about a few completely random things.

Grocery prices..ugh. Is anybody else shocked every time they check out? I can walk into the store needing three things and somehow leave having spent $75. And don't even get me started on how quickly everyone in the house can eat through a week's worth of groceries.

What to cook for supper. I have been cooking for years and somehow deciding what to fix every single night is still one of my least favorite responsibilities. It's not even the actual cooking. It's the deciding! If someone would just hand me a menu for the week, I'd be perfectly happy!

Fall television. This is the time of year when I start wanting to watch all the cozy movies and shows. Give me a small-town, a cute coffee shop, some pretty fall scenery, and a storyline that doesn't require too much brainpower. Sometimes that's exactly what I need!

My never-ending to-do list. Does anybody else write things on a list that they've already done just so they can cross them off? Please tell me I'm not alone. There's just something satisfying about that little check mark :) That's probably why I love to plan.

The sweet stuff

One thing I've been reminded of lately is just how quickly the seasons of life change. One minute you're raising little kids, packing lunches, and running from one activity to another. Then you blink, and those kids are grown, making lives of their own, and you're watching a whole new generation grow up.

Look at those babies in their first Halloween costumes.

Having grandchildren has given me a completely different appreciation for the little things. The giggles, the hugs, the funny things kids say, and even the times when things feel a little chaotic.

He is getting too big! Look at him hold his own bottle :)

Wrenley and Carlie at the pumpkin patch.

It's funny how the things that once seemed so ordinary become some of the sweetest memories.

Before you go... I think I've rambled enough for one Monday morning. If you were sitting across the table from me, I'd probably be getting up to refill our cups about now. Here's hoping this week brings a few pleasant surprises, some cooler weather, a good laugh or two, and at least one evening when supper practically cooks itself.

A girl can dream, right?

And before you go, I've got a few questions for you!

Are you a Monday morning go-getter, or does it take you until Tuesday to get your act together?

Have you started Christmas shopping yet, or are you firmly in the "it's only October" camp?

And most importantly, what's on your supper menu this week? I have a new recipe that I will share with you in tomorrow's blog, but I'm always looking for ideas!

Thanks for stopping by and spending a little of your Monday with me. I hope your coffee is strong, your week is sweet, and you find a little joy in the everyday things.

Much Love,

Beth

What's Up Wednesday

Happy What's Up Wednesday! Today I am linking up with  Shay  and  Sheaffer  for another "What's Up Wednesday" Let's do this! What we're eating this week... So far this week we have made: Wings on the Pit Boss Slow Cooker Pineapple Pork Chops You can't get any easier than wings and chops! Especially when they are on the grill and slow cooker!! What I'm Reminiscing About... Septembers past: September is Trey's birth month. It is also the month that my grandpa died four years ago. This is the year that Papa gave Trey a gun for his birthday. He was so proud to give it to Trey and you can tell by the look on Trey's face how happy he was. Such a sweet moment to remember. Our county fair is also in September. My kids used to love it when they were younger. They still love rides, just not the traveling kind :) This was Wrenley's school picture last year. She has grown so much in one year :) What I'm Loving... Makena and my mom have started mak...

Be Her: When Our Ideal Self Becomes an Idol

Ella Langley's "Be Her" got me thinking about something I think a lot of women struggle with- the woman we think we should be.  You know her. She's more disciplined. More confident. More put together. She exercises, keeps the house clean, reads her Bible every morning, never loses her patience, and somehow always has good hair. We tell ourselves, If I could just be her..... And there's nothing wrong with wanting to grow. But what happens when the woman we want to become turns into an idol? Sometimes we become so focused on our ideal self that we forget to ask God who He wants us to become. There's a subtle difference between praying, "Lord, make me more like Christ," and saying, "Lord, help me to become the woman I've decided I need to be." One is surrender. The other can easily become control.  Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. God isn't waiting fo...
