Farm Safety Day 2011

Our Group:
Heather, Gracie, Abby, Hannah, Carlie, Aiden, Stephen, David, and Skyler

Well, today I got to experience my first Farm Safety Day :)  I say that like it's a big deal or something, but I have always heard of it and since it was just for 5th graders, I didn't know what it was so I was curious.  It was really fun, and a great break for the kids from school!  They had 10 safety stations set up.  We were all split into groups, and since all the private schools (3) in Stuttgart aren't very big, we all got grouped together, plus we had one home school student in our group (Carlie's new friend).  There were also two public schools there (Stuttgart and DeWitt).  Anyway, we were told that our group was the best behaved :)
Here are some of the kids at our first station, the smoke house (fire safety):

Waiting to go into our first station...fire safety.  They filled a
little house with smoke and told the kids what to do in case it
ever happened to them.

Carlie was the last person to get out of the smoke house!
She said all the boys ran in front of her :)  BOYS!!
Next we headed over to the lawn mower/tractor safety.
Above is Dummy Dan, he got caught in the PTO of the mower.
The kids thought it was pretty cool and some laughed, but I think they
got the picture :)

Carlie on the little tractor.

There were more stations that I didn't take pictures at because they were either watching movies or we were just busy helping pass stuff out to our students.  The most scary video/station that they went to was the Bungee station which of course talked about safety around grain bins/loading grain trucks, etc.  They told some pretty scary stories of accidents.  Nobody likes to hear those things, but they do happen and I guess the kids need to know to be extra careful of those things.
Time to go back to school, but it was great while it lasted :)

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! Today I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  for another Friday favorites. And here they are in no particular order: Last week our preacher told us that he had a surprise for us next week.  I had honestly forgotten about it until Carl mentioned at lunch on Sunday.  Trey said he knew what it was, but he wasn't telling.  It still didn't occur to me what it could be until we arrived at church on Sunday night, and I saw that Trey had a notebook along with his Bible sitting next to him on our pew.  It was him. Trey was the surprise.  He gave a short devotion before our Business Meeting.  He did well, considering it was his first time.  He said the congregation was a lot scarier when you are the one being stared at! This is a big deal because about 7 months ago he realized that he needed Jesus as his Savior.  And that came after about 7 months of me worrying about him, while he was trying to stretch hi...

Friday Favorites

It's been a hot minute since I've linked up with  Andrea  and  Erika  for a Friday Favorites! This is me trying to get back into my blogging groove :) I came across this little dress last year when we moved, and I knew it would be fit Wrenley this summer! It was Makena's circa 2004.  I just love it when a plan comes together.  A favorite for sure! Look at those babies. Twenty years has flown by. Miss Wrenley Beth. She doesn't look a thing like her momma, but definitely has Aunt Makena's sass! Hopefully as her hair grows, she will get Carlie's curls. We have been doing as much outdoor activities as possible.  That includes one of my favorite things...fishing! Carl, showing off his big bass. We weren't technically bass fishing, but whatever bites. It'll eat! Of course we have also been going to the river.  Our kids weren't able to go with us, so we just took the jet ski.   It has been raining so the water is a gross brown. I didn't s...
