Dear Struggling Homeschool Mom,
You are not alone! I have been where you are, and I feel your pain! When the attitudes of your "students" aren't easy to handle, when the subject retention isn't what you expect, and when they are distracted and unable to focus on schooling: as hard as it seems and as appealing as quitting may be, just keep going! You can do this!
I think that all of us may have variations as to why we began our homeschooling journey but we definitely have one thing in common: we only want what is best for our children, and in the beginning we *knew* it would mean sacrificing our time, opportunities, etc., to make sure that our children get the quality of education we think is the best for them. But really we didn't *know*, did we? We didn't know that sometimes others think, and like to speak their thoughts that we are ridiculous for the journey we decided to take. We didn't know that sometimes it's a struggle to get half of the days school work done. We didn't know that getting your kids to *just do the dang work* so you can go hunting or play your game, would at times be so difficult.
I am here to encourage you to keep doing the hard things. We are not perfect, but it is okay to move forward in our imperfections, keeping in mind that our response to the hard things matter. It's okay to be frustrated, but we do need to try and model the same things that we expect from our kids. If we want our children to shine in this world, we must shine!
Here are a couple of passages of scripture that have encouraged me in my season of struggle.
"Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God" without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life." Philippians 2:14-15
"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." Philippians 3:12
Everything worth doing is going to be difficult at some point. Homeschooling is no different. You can do this; we can do this!
