The Fourth of July feels a little different this year, doesn't it? This year we're celebrating 250 years since America declared its independence-- a milestone that reminds us just how much history has been written by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
We were in the middle of trying to decide what the weather was going to do
Once in started thundering we just went home!
For 250 years, this country has experienced incredible triumphs, heartbreaking losses, moments of unity, and seasons of division. Through it all, generations have worked, sacrificed, dreamed, and hoped for something better for their children and grandchildren.
Trey stopped by before going to cook fish at my parents house.
Flags and dog in the back :)
Carl's mom and stepdad finally got to meet Wesley.
We had a good time visiting with them.
Me with my sister and brother-in-law.
We were decorating cookies.
Little Miss was ready to get in the pool!
She also wanted a picture with BeBe and Uncle Trey
Baby Bro was just chilling out.
Makena finally gave in and got in the pool
Wren wasn't far behind her!
The sun never came out, but they still had their 5 minutes of fun!
Caleb was at the fire station, so Carlie, Wrenley and Wesley came and spent the afternoon at the house. Carl grilled burgers and hot dogs for dinner and then we all went down to Trey's to do a few fireworks. Carlie didn't want to stay out too late, so it was pretty light when we did them.
Pappy was in his Yankee Doodle hat
Sometimes she was a little scared, so Uncle Trey held her.
She loves sparklers.
I was holding Wesley while all of this was going on and nothing really bothered him. He would flinch if something was really loud, but they didn't bother him too bad. Wrenley loved it all. She giggled and smiled and always wanted MORE! Carlie took them by the fire station do did a few fireworks with Caleb before they headed home. Even though the day didn't look like we hoped it would, it was still great to be with my people.
Realized that I didn't have a picture of Carlie, so I stole one of hers!
No nation is perfect, and America certainly has its flaws. But today is a good day to be thankful-- for the opportunities we have, for the communities we call home and for the people who continue to work towards making our country stronger. So, here's to 250 years of history, resilience, and hope. Happy birthday, America! May we never lose sight of the blessings of freedom or the responsibility that comes with it.
Much Love,
Beth
