Goodbye June, Hello July!

 July has always been one of my favorite months. For one, my favorite holiday is in July (Independence Day). It is also the month that we have been taking our summer beach vacation in, AND it is also a busy birthday month (Makena, me, and Grammy). I am super excited for all of these again this year! 

This is also an exciting month for Makena. Her "Rooted on the Grand Prairie" exhibit opened today!



The exhibit looks great! She has worked pretty hard on this for a while.

Makena is wanting to go to the Little House on the Prairie Museum in Kansas for her birthday. You know that girl loves her a good museum, and we have been watching the old show recently. She said    she isn't interested in the new one because it isn't historically accurate. Leave it to our resident historian  to keep us accurate. It does sound like a fun trip. We are going to do our best to make it happen. Her birthday is on Monday (she is off on Mondays) but we leave for the beach on Wednesday. Maybe we can swing it. 

We've made it through the first part of summer and now we're right in the middle of long evenings, backyard cookouts, fireworks, swimming pools, and all those little moments that somehow end up becoming our favorite memories. 
As much as I am looking forward to vacation (and believe me, I am!), I am already thinking about how much I will miss Wrenley and Wesley and how much he will grow during that week! I think I have seen him almost every day since he came home, even if it is just for an hour or so.

After Makena's 24th birthday and our beach trip come my birthday. And while I am not giving my age away, I will say that I am absolutely closer to 50 than I am to 40! At this point in life, I'm just thankful for the mornings I wake up without aching joints, lol. 
The week following my birthday is our Revival at church. We normally do a 3-night revival; however, we are trying 5 nights this year. I am looking forward to it, but I also know that I will be exhausted by the time the week is over.

It was a pretty decent start to the summer, now bring on the good times!

  Happy Monday, friends! Well, here we are again. What's Up Wednesday

Be Her: When Our Ideal Self Becomes an Idol

 Ella Langley's "Be Her" got me thinking about something I think a lot of women struggle with- the woman we think we should be.  You know her. She's more disciplined. More confident. More put together. She exercises, keeps the house clean, reads her Bible every morning, never loses her patience, and somehow always has good hair. We tell ourselves, If I could just be her..... And there's nothing wrong with wanting to grow. But what happens when the woman we want to become turns into an idol? Sometimes we become so focused on our ideal self that we forget to ask God who He wants us to become. There's a subtle difference between praying, "Lord, make me more like Christ," and saying, "Lord, help me to become the woman I've decided I need to be." One is surrender.
